An alpha ecosystem for native Genesis ports, with public Sonic projects and opt-in widescreen work.
SegaGenesisRecomp turns Genesis games into native apps.
The public work today is centered on Sonic games. That makes it a useful ecosystem, but it is still younger than the PlayStation and SNES work.
You provide your own cartridge dump.
What runs today
Public projects include Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
Treat them as playable alpha projects. They are real ports, but each one still owns its own testing, bugs, and enhancement work.
The exact state still belongs on each game page. The platform page is here to explain the ecosystem.
What Genesis ports can add
- Widescreen that opens the view instead of stretching the image.
- Gamepad-friendly native runners.
- Netplay experiments where the project chooses to support them.
- Display and audio options around the original game.
- Game-specific quality-of-life features.
What to expect
SegaGenesisRecomp has useful public results, but it is not a finished whole-console solution.
The Genesis also has a sound CPU, timing behavior, mappers, and game-specific tricks that still need care. A Sonic port working well does not automatically mean every Genesis game is ready.
