Mega Man X4

PlayStation · 2026

X4 as a native app: true 16:9 widescreen and a damage multiplier you tune yourself.

The X series hit PlayStation with X4, and PSXRecomp picks the story up right there. It sits alongside Mega Man X5 and Mega Man X6 in the framework's run of Capcom titles.

Mega Man X4 running from a native build

Playable status

Yes, as an early playable alpha. Windows and Linux packages are on the GitHub releases page. The game is built from a dump you provide: your Mega Man X4 (USA) disc image, plus a PlayStation BIOS file, which this project does not yet bundle an open replacement for.

The opening cinematics play, the menus and attract demos work, and memory-card saving is confirmed. Broad stage coverage still needs more verification.

What the recomp adds

  • Experimental 16:9 widescreen, which renders a genuinely wider 2D field of view rather than stretching the image. Your health and weapon meters anchor to the wide left edge, enemy and boss meters to the wide right.
  • A configurable integer Damage Multiplier, intended for testing and save repair, tunable to taste.

Modern controllers work because the runtime presents the game with the plain digital pad it expects. Keyboards and modern gamepads both work.
